Today I will give you brief information about ETL tools and then I will talk about the two tools I use the most.

While there are many ETL tools available, some of them are as follows;

- Xplenty

- Skyvia

- IRI Voracity

- xtract.io

- Informatica — PowerCenter

- IBM — Infosphere Information Server

- Oracle Data Integrator

- Microsoft — SQL Server Integrated Services (SSIS)

- Ab Initio

- Talend — Talend Open Studio for Data Integration

- CloverDX Data Integration Software

- Pentaho Data Integration

- SAS — Data Integration Studio

- Azure Data Factory

- Apache Kafka

Now, I will talk about the features of Informatica Powercenter and IBM Infosphere Information Server tools that I use the most among the above ETL tools and the differences between the two.

INFORMATICA

• Informatica is known as the Informatica Power Center, which provides ETL processing for applications used in enterprise-level data warehouses.

• Data can be transmitted to users in real-time.

• It is used to clean up and modify large amounts of data from one system to another.

• Companies that need to build data warehouses need ETL tools like Informatica to transfer data from production to data warehouses.

• Partial support for error handling.

• It provides step-by-step solutions to create data integration.

• It provides reusability to reuse mapping and workflow, which will improve performance.

• It provides 30 general conversions to be processed.

• It supports heterogeneous and homogeneous sources.

DATASTAGE

• Datastage plays the role of interface between different systems. It is used in large organizations. For example, the banking industry uses the Datastage tool.

• In 2005, IBM acquired DataStage. It first changed its name to IBM Web Sphere Data Stage and then IBM Infosphere.

• Data can be delivered to users in parallel.

• Used to process and transform large amounts of data.

• The source or target is directly connected to the enterprise.

• Error handling is fully or always supported.

• It provides integrated project-based solutions.

• It provides job reusability, but for this, it needs to make a copy of the workflow, compile and run it.

• It provides 40 general conversion objects to perform any conversion.

• Only supports homogeneous sources. Users may end up using heterogeneous sources for the wrong conversion.

DIFFERENCES BETWEEN INFORMATICA AND DATASTAGE

Conclusion

We have seen the difference and working of Informatica and DataStage ETL tools. From the above differences and comparison, we can conclude that both the tools work efficiently in their way. Both the tools provide good services to an organization.

It is the user’s choice which tool to use, I use both with great pleasure.

I hope it was helpful.

Best regards
